PCAA staffs
three stations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also staff a
"Float" Unit which roams around our coverage area and handles
calls daily from 8 am to 6 pm, Friday and Saturday nights from 6
pm to midnight.
PCAA is an
aggressive and progressive organization. In October 2004 we
began a new endeavor, critical care transports. PCAA staffs an
ALS unit at several Hospitals in Montgomery County and one in
Philadelphia. These units provide critical care transport for
the Cardiac Catheterization Teams at these facilities.
Pennsylvania requires any hospital that performs invasive
cardiac catheterizations, without the ability to perform open
heart surgery, to have an ambulance available for immediate
transport to an open heart facility should the patient require
more advanced care during the procedure. These units are
staffed during normal business hours weekdays and are called in
when emergency procedures are performed after hours.
